In-line and Off-line Optimization of Freeze-drying Cycles for Pharmaceutical Products

Model based tools allow optimizing the freeze-drying of a pharmaceutical formulation in a specific freeze-dryer, thus minimizing the duration of the process, beside maintaining product temperature below a limit value to preserve product quality. This paper is focused on the comparison of the results that can be obtained optimizing the process either off-line, using the design space of the formulation, or in-line, using a Model Predictive Control algorithm.
